Armada Review
Armada are one of the coolest and newest of ski brands.
Armada specialise in Freeride and Freestyle skis with a definitive Americana twist. The popularity of Armada also lies in their Team riders, with the likes of Tanner Hall and J.P.Auclair the brand has had instant credibility. Some of the Team riders also part-own the company, this sets them apart from what many of the younger generation believe are soulless corporate ski producers.
Armada skis are pure Free-Skiing, they are built for jibbing, spinning, and flying through the air as much as cutting through snow. If you're in the park on the mountain, in your park or chilling in your hood, the constructions are sturdy, the lively wood cores strong and durable. Armadas are tailor made for mountain or urban jibbing.
Urban graphics and attitude torn from the music scene give these skis a tough, hard-hitting image. The cult of Armada is perhaps as attractive a reason for buying these skis as is the fact that they are pure and excellent for the job that they are designed for.

The AR5 has officially been laid to rest, and in its place we have introduced its protégé, the AR6. This series still holds true to the intent of the AR5; however, it has undergone an overhaul making it even better suited as a park and pipe ski and also improving its all-mountain performance. The major change in the AR6 is two fold. We have widened the dimensions of this particular model to provide skiers with increased stability. In addition, the variable slant sidewall technology used in the past has been replaced with a vertical sidewall. In doing so, excess sidewall material has been eliminated and the core widened, furthering weight savings, overall durability and increases edge durability. By incorporating the Armada designed AR1 core along with carbon fiber stringers in the tail, the AR6 is more stable, stronger, and lighter than ever before. All this, combined with the addition of the 166cm to the line, rounds out the largest, most high performance offering yet from the ski that started the Armada revolution. It is simply the one ski in the Armada line that our athletes cannot do with out.

The T-Hall Signature Model has undergone a construction overhaul similar to that of the AR6. By incorporating Armada’s originally designed AR Core 1, reducing sidewall material and consequently increasing the core width, the T-Hall is now lighter and stronger than ever. No longer including a factory de-tuned edge under boot, the T-Hall is also more conducive to all-mountain riding than ever before; dispelling any preconceptions that Tanner’s brainchild could not serve much of a purpose outside of a park setting.
At the heart of it all, the model remains jib-specific; the ski’s profile is considerably more progressive allowing for flex points before and after the binding. These flex points provide the ideal flex for nose presses and butters, while remaining stiff under boot for stability. The T-Hall Signature Model remains the ultimate tool for aspiring and seasoned jibbers, but has effectively increased its ability to perform for the everyday skier.

Team rider Anthony Boronowski made improvements in his model this year by giving it a slightly softer flex pattern and a weight reduction. While the slightly softer flex pattern in the tip of the ski makes it easier to initiate turns, it still retains an overall solid flex which gives it great variable-condition stability in any big mountain setting. As the widest ski we make, it is designed for charging steep lines in all snow conditions at speeds bordering on lunacy. Make no mistake, this ski isn't for the faint at heart.

There are many skis in the twin tip Freeride market and many skiers believe that if they go for out and out stiffness they will have the best ski. This latest incarnation is more intelligent as it is subtler and suits skiers who are more creative as opposed to the pure straightline hoodlum. These skis turn, carve and hammer through the toughest of conditions and speeds. Excellent if your level is a match.

Not to be limited in its scope, the construction characteristics of this model make it an equally as impressive all mountain ski for those demanding top-notch materials, and a standard width under boot. Lively, agile and light weight; the Pipe Cleaner is a fusion of the AR6 in terms of dimensions, ARV in terms of all mountain versatility, and a downhill race ski in terms of its speed. This formula has provided a number of super pipe podiums at high profile competitions around the world for the past couple of years. The JP vs. Julien Signature Model is the ultimate tool for those who want to elevate their backcountry jumping/jibbing game. No doubt this model opened a lot of eyes this past fall as Tanner Hall attacked Chad's Gap with these under his feet. Little has changed with this model, due to the overwhelming response from Armada team riders, dealers, and customers.
The most significant change to the JP vs. Julien is the addition of a 178cm. JP and Julien designed this model with little sidecut and camber and a wide waist which allows the skier to stomp landings and makes it easier to control while skiing switch into backcountry booters; not to mention the ski's width is ideal for traditional powder skiing. The tip radius remains progressive providing extra float in powder, while the tail sits 10mm higher then the tip for those wanting to land, or ski, switch in deep snow. Did we mention this is quite possibly the lightest fat ski on the market? Pick it up, you'll know what we are talking about.
